Here’s another of Phoenix Park – the place is absolutely huge!
I’m hopefully back from Malta today, plenty of new picture to sift through!

This is Phoenix Park: the largest public park in Europe! Wooooo!
I’m still in Malta (I left on Tuesday), and will get back on Saturday, in the meantime, hopefully everything is running smoothly here!

This chimp looked dead depressed – do you agree with keeping animals in cages?

There was a large flock of flamingos near here (you can see them to the right) but I just couldn’t get a good shot of them so I had to settle for this bridge instead. Oh well.

There were two sea otters having a whale of a time in the pool here but unfortuantely they wouldn’t stay still long enough to take a picture. This guy however had nowhere else to go, it’s a crane right?

Well I visited Dublin Zoo today for the first time ever. Overall I was satisfied; I saw plenty of animals so anything else would have been a bonus (there was nothing else). Plenty of walking was involved – all in all it took maybe 3 hours to get around everything. Then I went to a Chinese buffet restaurant and stuffed my fat face for just €9,90 – a good day overall then.
That blurry yellow streak near the right hand side of the photos is actually a long piece of grass thats out of focus, really that was the ONLY spot I could stand in.

Yes another one, I took about 14 million photos of it, all on the same miserable gloomy day – at least I’m pleasing the Eiffel Tower fans!

Oooooh I’ve just eaten a huge stir-fry with friends and am quite satisfied if I do say so myself. This is of course the River Liffey, the main (and only) river flowing through the wonderful city of Dublin. I had intended finishing the time-lapse video that it seems I will never finish but it was just too cold for me to bother, so I took this instead. There is a bit of noise in the water – I’ve never played around with noise reduction software but I’ll get onto that soon.

I grabbed this shot just as I was leaving home for college yesterday. Increasingly I’ve been regretting not having my camera with me at least once a day now so I’ve begun bringing it with me where ever I go. So what about a tripod? At the moment that’s a bit too much – as such most of my recent pictures have been processed using just one NEF file rather than the five that I would take if I had the time

I want my house to have walls like this. Except the carvings will be of me.
Stepping into the tomb of Napoleon was like stepping into the past – the architecture and craft of the walls and statues are just not seen in today’s buildings. The crème de la crème of the visit was surely going to be the actual resting place of Napoleon I – a huge sarcophagus towering above us in height, with two fat workers repairing some tiles beside it, so much for the illusion of grandeur…

This statue resides outside Musée d’Orsay in Paris, I’ll just say that this was tone mapped rather than being HDR since I’ve ben reading a lot of booers boohoo-ing in general about all the fake HDR stuff flying over the interweb!

Everybody says that you cannot see the entire Lourve in one day. I set out to prove them all wrong and failed miserably. This ceiling was but one of I can only guess about 7600 rooms, corridors and underground passageways that make up this monster of a museum. This was actually one of the more appealing sections of the museum – the lighting was kind of low here so the picture is oh so slightly blurry, but only just
Oh, and the Mona Lisa was rubbish.

It snowed rather unexpectedly on Thursday in Dublin so I was caught without a camera. I had to head back to my accommodation, pick up my compact and return to campus. Footprints had already destroyed the homogeneous white of the snow blanketed ground almost everywhere, which sucked, so I was lucky to find this one set of footprints by themselves. I wonder where their owner is now?
My first time-lapse video has been on hold for a week now on account of it being freezing cold at night – with any luck the weather wont be so bad for the coming week and I’ll be able to get it finished…

Unfortunately the snow is melting now – soon Dublin will forgot it ever snowed
This is another jpg shot with my Olympus – I’m pretty surprised/impressed the way they are being processed by HDR Max, I’ll have to try shooting in jpg some scenes with more colour to see what HDR Ma does to them.

There seems to be extravagant statues everywhere in Paris – this is but one of them. Unfortunately I don’t know the name of the building it was situated next to

Although winter in Ireland is usually cold, wet and windy, on this particular day it was unusally calm and sunny.
In other news I have submitted 7 pictures to the Ariea macbook competition – fingers crossed!

On the timelapse photograpgy front I’ve now got about 1 minute 40 seconds done, and I’m wondering what type of muisc would go well with the video. I’m thinking I might make a few versions of the video, each with a different soundtrack to see which appeals to who.

I did an awful lot of walking while in Paris. I’d estimate on average about 5 miles everyday – it didn’t help that the only shoes I brought were bought just two days previously
While on our travels into one of many museums we came across a section with old cannons, tanks, general reminders of long past wars. I can barely imagine this tank clunking along, trying its best not to just grind to a halt in a pool of it’s own crappyness, but I guess this technology was what was available at the time…

That post from the top of the Arc De Triomphe will have to wait – there’s a story attached and I’ve no time to write it
I was surprised to find that you can take photos of nearly anything in Paris – whether you are in a museum like the Lourve or Notre Dame cathedral, nothing is off limits. This is but one of the many statues in Notre Dame, the light everywhere was very low lit, combined with the cold it created a rather gloomy atmosphere.

Not a HDR photo today but different none the less. Without doubt one of the highlights of Paris was walking along the Champs-Élysées towards the Arc de Triomphe. This is one of the few shots I shoot with my D300 attached to my rather flimsy but protable tripod. The entire street is flooded with lights after dusk all year around and the view from the top of the Triomphe is something that must be seen to be believed – I’ll post that one tomorrow along with a frustrating tale of an authority stamping French douche…
