I’m home for the bank holiday weekend (in Ireland the last Monday of October is a bank holiday, giving everyone a long weekend, WOOHOO!) and I don’t have my S9600 or D300 with me so instead I’ve spent some time changing the site format to make it a little more user friendly.
- Instead of the homepage showing just a summary of past posts, it now shows full contents of the last twenty posts. This gives the reader a more immediate feel for what the post is about rather than just seeing a little summary.
- Google ads are gone from each post (or at least the last twenty entries anyway.) No one wants to see intrusive ads in their face when reading new content. Also Google doesn’t like it when more than three adense ads are present on the same page so changing from summaries to full posts on the homepage kind of made the decision to remove google ads a no brainer. I’ve still got the google banner ad on top simply because I don’t know what to do with the space otherwise. Suggestions?
- I was reluctant in the past to provide full feeds, again due to google ads. If google ads are in a post then wordpress automatically includes them when publishing full feeds, (but not with summary feeds.) I’ve always thought that advertisements within feeds to be cheap and totally out of place. Now that I’ve removed adense from my posts though I’m free to change to full feeds, and I feel much better for it too.
Is this a big improvement or was everything OK before? Do full / summary feeds decide whether you would subscribe in general?
